For many years I have given a talk directed primarily to our UCLA Head and Neck Surgery Department’s graduating Chief Residents. But typically, all the residents and fellows have attended; they had the value of repetition and repeat digestion. The aim has been to give a “heads up” regarding specific issues, challenges, demands and requirements that are generally absent in training programs. Depending on the model of practice, one can immediately fall into a markedly different and somewhat foreign practice world.
The PowerPoint presentation is the core of the presentation but it augmented by “handouts” on particular subjects. It has been most gratifying to me when years after the presentation, a former resident or fellow says “Hello” at a meeting or course, and comments: “That lecture you gave us just prior to graduation was right on. Thanks.”
My wish is that you also profit from what you learn here so as to enjoy and prosper from your specialty choice.
